Tree Safety Surveys

Anyone who owns, rents or occupies land has a legal 'duty of care' to ensure trees they are responsible for are in a safe condition and do not place people or property at risk.

We provide tree safety surveys and reports for all sized projects ,from individual trees to the landscape scale that serve to fulfil your 'duty of care'.

Our tree condition surveys aim to strike a balance between the potential risks associated with trees and the many benefits they offer both us as humans, and the myriad of species that rely upon them for their survival.

we employ the visual tree assessment (VTA) methodology to evaluate the bio-mechanical condition of a tree and combine this with an in-depth knowledge of wood decay fungi, pests, diseases and abiotic conditions that may impact tree stability or health.

Our tree condition reports aim to provide the reader with a comprehensive insight into the condition and health of each tree surveyed, detailing (when necessary) any remedial works that may be required.

Pre-development surveys  (BS. 5837)

Pre-development tree surveys are frequently requested  by local planning authorities where development is proposed in proximity to trees, either within the proposed site or close to the proposed site in neighbouring properties.

Pre-development surveys usually consist of 2 to 4 stages detailed below.

 Initial pre-development survey

The purpose of the initial survey  is to gather data on trees that may be impacted during construction, including, accurate tree position, tree tag number, species, heights crown spread, condition, tree retention category and trunk diameter (this determines the root protection area of the tree).

This data is used to create a tree constraints plan and report that shows the opportunities and constraints for construction as the site currently exists.

Arboricultural impact assessment's

Using the data gathered in the initial survey, an assessment of the likely impact upon the tree population can be carried out and quantified within a separate report  this also informs the next two stages .

Arboricultural method statement

If required on a particular site, the arboricultural method statement details how works around trees is to be carried out, including, the position and specification of tree protection barriers, any specialist construction techniques to be implemented, temporary or permanent ground protection and specification of any tree works required .

Mitigation planting plan

If trees have been removed in aid of construction (with planning department approval) it is often a condition of planning that replacement trees are planted to mitigate the loss. A mitigation planting plan and accompanying report Show the position of proposed trees on an accurate map, detail the tree species selection, there specification, and stipulates the aftercare that will be needed to allow the trees to thrive.

Tree planting design and planting

Our Tree Planting Planning Service offers a comprehensive approach to enhancing green spaces.

We work closely with clients to develop tailored plans that include site assessment, tree selection, and ongoing maintenance strategies. Additionally, our Tree Planting Service provides hands-on planting by our experienced team, ensuring each tree is planted for optimal growth and sustainability.

With well thought out planting schemes we can close the loop between retaining and caring for existing mature trees and creating the mature trees of the future.

We are also experienced in implementing mitigation tree planting schemes that may be requested by local planning authorities after the loss of trees due to construction projects, be that authorised removal or following a breach of planning conditions.
